1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Canadian National Federation platform ("CNF", "Platform", "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Platform.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the Canadian National Federation, a federally incorporated not-for-profit corporation.

2. Eligibility

To use this Platform, you must:

  • Be at least 13 years of age
  • If you are between 13 and 17 years old, have permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the Platform
  • Be a resident of Canada
  • Have the legal capacity to enter into binding contracts under Canadian law (or have parental consent)
  • Not be prohibited from accessing the Platform under Canadian law

2.1 Minors (Ages 13-17)

If you are under 18, you may use the Platform with parental or guardian consent. By creating an account, your parent or guardian agrees to:

  • Supervise your use of the Platform
  • Be responsible for your activities and any content you post
  • These Terms on your behalf

Parents and guardians may contact us through the contact form to review, modify, or request deletion of their child's account and data.

2.2 Age-Appropriate Use

Users under 18 should use the Platform primarily for:

  • Career exploration and job searching
  • Educational resources and mentorship programs
  • Skills training and youth-focused events
  • Connecting with businesses for apprenticeships or entry-level positions

Minors are prohibited from creating business listings, posting jobs, or engaging in commercial activities without verified parental involvement.

3. Membership

3.1 Membership Types and Fees

CNF offers various membership tiers with different benefits and pricing. Current membership options and fees are displayed on our website at the time of sign-up.

Some promotional periods may offer reduced or free memberships. Standard membership fees are charged annually and are non-refundable.

3.2 Membership Benefits

Active members have access to:

  • Job board posting and application features
  • Business listing creation
  • Forum participation and direct messaging
  • Event creation and RSVP
  • Member directory
  • Community resources and support

3.3 Membership Obligations

As a member, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and current information
  • Maintain the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
  • Conduct yourself in accordance with CNF's community standards
  • Pay applicable membership fees when they become due

3.4 Membership Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate memberships for violations of these Terms, non-payment of fees, or conduct harmful to the CNF community. You may cancel your membership at any time through your account settings. No refunds are provided for partial membership periods.

4. User Accounts

4.1 Account Creation

You must authenticate using a valid OAuth provider (Google, Microsoft, or LinkedIn). You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4.2 Account Security

You agree to:

  • Maintain the security of your OAuth credentials
  • Not share your account with others
  • Immediately notify us of any security breach or unauthorized use
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

4.3 Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, your personal information will be removed within 30 days, though some content (forum posts, comments) may be retained anonymously for community continuity.

5. Business Listings

5.1 Business Listing Terms

Business listings are subject to the following:

  • All listings must be verified by CNF administrators
  • Businesses must be legitimate Canadian operations
  • You must have authority to represent the business you are listing
  • Current pricing and promotional offers are available on our website
  • Business listing fees are charged monthly or annually as selected during sign-up

5.2 Business Content Standards

Business listings must:

  • Provide accurate business information
  • Use appropriate business images and descriptions
  • Comply with all applicable advertising laws
  • Not make false or misleading claims
  • Not infringe on intellectual property rights

5.3 Verification and Approval

CNF reserves the right to verify business information, request additional documentation, approve or reject listings, and remove listings that violate these Terms or community standards.

6. Donations

6.1 Voluntary Contributions

Members and visitors may choose to make voluntary financial contributions to support CNF's mission and operations. Donations are entirely voluntary and do not affect membership status or access to Platform features.

6.2 Non-Refundable

All donations are final and non-refundable under any circumstances. By making a donation, you acknowledge that you are making a voluntary contribution with no expectation of goods, services, or benefits in return.

6.3 Not Tax Deductible

CNF is a federally incorporated not-for-profit corporation, not a registered charity. Donations to CNF are NOT eligible for charitable tax receipts or tax deductions under the Income Tax Act (Canada).

6.4 Use of Donations

Donations support CNF's general operations, including platform maintenance, community programs, events, and organizational development. CNF reserves the right to allocate donations as needed to fulfill its mission.

7. Content and Conduct

7.1 User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of content you post (forum posts, comments, job listings, etc.), but grant CNF a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content on the Platform.

7.2 Prohibited Content

You may not post content that:

  • Is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, or harassing
  • Contains hate speech, discrimination, or promotes violence
  • Infringes intellectual property rights
  • Contains malware, viruses, or malicious code
  • Is sexually explicit or pornographic
  • Contains personal information of others without consent
  • Is spam, advertising, or commercial solicitation (except in designated areas)
  • Impersonates others or misrepresents your identity
  • Violates any applicable law or regulation

7.3 Prohibited Activities

You may not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Platform or other users' accounts
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Platform's operation
  • Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) without written permission
  • Collect user information for unauthorized purposes
  • Engage in any activity that harms CNF or its members
  • Circumvent security features or access controls

7.4 Content Moderation

CNF reserves the right to review, edit, or remove any content at our discretion, with or without notice. We are not obligated to monitor content but may do so to enforce these Terms.

8. Intellectual Property

8.1 CNF Intellectual Property

The Platform, including its design, features, functionality, and content (excluding user-generated content), is owned by CNF and protected by Canadian and international intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without written permission.

8.2 Trademarks

"Canadian National Federation" and associated logos are trademarks of CNF. You may not use these marks without written permission.

9. Privacy

Your use of the Platform is subject to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand our data practices.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

10.1 Platform "As Is"

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

10.2 No Guarantee of Results

CNF does not guarantee that use of the Platform will result in job placements, business success, or any specific outcomes. We are a mutual aid organization that facilitates connections, not an employment agency or business advisor.

10.3 Third-Party Content

CNF is not responsible for user-generated content, job postings, business listings, or communications between members. We do not verify the accuracy of user-provided information beyond basic verification processes.

10.4 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CNF SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES ARISING FROM:

  • Your use or inability to use the Platform
  • User-generated content or conduct of other users
  • Unauthorized access to your account or data
  • Platform errors, interruptions, or security breaches
  • Any other matter relating to the Platform

IN NO EVENT SHALL CNF'S TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU, IF ANY, FOR YOUR MOST RECENT MEMBERSHIP PERIOD.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CNF, its directors, officers, volunteers, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the Platform
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any rights of others
  • Content you post on the Platform

12. Dispute Resolution

12.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.

12.2 Dispute Process

Before initiating legal action, you agree to first contact CNF to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. If informal resolution fails, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in British Columbia in accordance with the Arbitration Act (British Columbia).

12.3 Class Action Waiver

You agree to resolve disputes with CNF on an individual basis only, not as part of a class action or representative proceeding.

13. Modifications to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time by posting updated Terms on the Platform. Material changes will be communicated via email or prominent Platform notice at least 30 days before taking effect. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

14. Termination

CNF may suspend or terminate your access to the Platform at any time, for any reason, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform immediately ceases, and we may delete your account and content.

15. General Provisions

15.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and CNF regarding use of the Platform.

15.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

15.3 Waiver

CNF's failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision.

15.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account without CNF's written consent. CNF may assign these Terms without restriction.

15.5 Force Majeure

CNF is not liable for delays or failures in performance due to causes beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, internet failures, or government actions.
